Building and mounting a shifter can be a difficult process for even an advanced DIY’er. With our cable shift conversion the process could not be more simple
We chose to create an industry first cable shift conversion for the D series transmission for several reasons.
With a conventional “rod change” style shifter, the shifter base needs to be attached to an engine steady rod to alloy it to move with the engine under load. If this is not done then the transmission can come out of gear when the engine rocks. Most people omit this bar as it takes up space under the car and adds additional complexity to the shifter. To stop the transmission from popping out of gear, they make the engine near solidly mounted. This eliminates engine movement, and therefor prevents popping out of gear, but it also increases NVH (noise, vibration, harshness) and adds undue stress on components.
Converting to a cable shifter means that the shifter can be bolted directly to the body of the car, giving the most direct feel, all the while being completely independent of engine movement, so soft engine mounts can be run and the car can remain composed and comfortable.
The result is a more accurate and modern shifting experience.
This kit includes two shifter cable brackets, and one shift fork bracket. This kit does not include shifter cables or shifter.
The kit is designed to work with OEM Acura RSX shifter cables and shifters. We recommend using OEM style shifter cables and not the solid style ones.
The three shifters we recommend are the factory OEM, hybrid racing, or ACUiTY.
This kit fits in a classic mini D16 swap using OEM length Honda cables. It will require longer custom length shifter cables for application in other front engine cars
